Conformation

From the American Kennel Club - Conformation website.

Dog shows, or "conformation" events, are the signature events of the AKC. They concentrate on the distinctive features of purebred dogs and help to preserve these characteristics by providing a forum at which to evaluate breeding stock.

Exhibits are judged against individual breed standards, which have been established for the AKC-recognized breeds by their parent clubs. These written standards describe the ideal size, color, and temperament of each breed, as well as correct proportion, structure, and movement.

CONFORMATION

Beginning Conformation

Greater Monroe Kennel Club offers the beginning level of conformation instruction for people interested in learning how to train and show their own dog. Conformation instructors all have 20 or more years of handling experience in the breed ring.

This training will teach you how to train and present (handle) your dog in the show ring. Stacking, baiting, and ring procedure will be stressed. Beginner and advanced classes are offered.

This class is designed toward the first time or beginning handler. It covers information on proper equipment, basics of showing a dog, how dog shows work, and how to enter your dog in a show, training and grooming tips, and more. Class size is limited to 12 participants.  Drop-Ins are welcome.
