Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) Testing
The American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizenship test demonstrates
the dog, as a companion of man, can be a respected member of the
community, and can be trained to always behave in the home, in
public places and in the presence of other dogs in a manner that
will reflect credit on the dog. Testing is offered periodically.

Canine
Good Citizen Test

A Canine Good Citizen Test was offered on June
14, 2006 after 8 weeks of classes taught by Emily Foster and Janet
Broome. Seven dogs were
tested and all passed. The
test evaluated the dogs acceptance of a friendly stranger.
They were asked to sit politely for petting, showing no
shyness or resentment. Each
dog was inspected for appearance.
They were brushed lightly with a comb or brush and their ears
and front feet were examined. Each dog was tested while the handler took their dog for a
walk, which included right turns, left turns, about turns and stop.
Each dog and handler walked close to several people.
The dog may show casual interest but not jump up.
The dog were asked to sit and down.
The handler left the dog and went to the end of a 20 foot
lead and returned immediately.
The handler walked out 10 feet and called the dog to
demonstrate that the dog would come when called.
The dog’s reaction to another dog and reaction to
distractions was tested. The
dog’s reaction to being separated from the handler was tested by
the handler leaving the dog with the examiners for 3 minutes.
Emily and Janet did a wonderful job teaching this class and
their expertise was greatly appreciated.
